Paulina & Andrew's wedding at Hopkins park in Dekalb, IL.

Paulina & Andrew | Hopkins Park Wedding

I've been photographing weddings for about 7.5 years now, and I think Paulina & Andrew's wedding was the first time I was ever invited to play with Barbie dolls. I even got to be Ken, all decked out in his wedding best. So there I was, in the middle of the wedding prep chaos - playing with dolls with Natalie, the daughter of the bride and groom as I photographed.

What does that have to do with wedding photography? Well, a bit of nothing and a bit of everything.  So bear with me, I'm going to type a bit more than usual on this one. To me the monumentally important thing about wedding photography is people and those human relationships. Not so much the stuff. Yes, a wedding dress and your shoes are important. But they're important because they are yours and reflect the little choices you have made. They are not your wedding day.  It's my hope that long after that dress and shoes have been packed away, my clients will treasure those brief moments in time and what they meant. Like the days when their daughter was 4 years old (but ALMOST 5 I'm told). Or that brief moment where Andrew held Paulina tight on the dance floor like they were the only two people in the room. The time spent goofing around with your best friends. All laughs, the hugs, the misty eyes, the drinks, the fun, the nervous energy. All those moment matter.

What does that have to do with playing dolls? Probably nothing, but it got me thinking. I love what I do, and I love how I do it, and I will always be grateful to those who choose me to tell their very important story. Here's Paulina & Andrews. Cheers guys.
