When mother nature sends you a flood, throw a boat party. Colleen and Kevin did, and I'm grateful to have worked with people with such great spirit. Let me explain...

Rain was not in the ideal plan for Colleen and Kevin's wedding, but it was in the forecast. But just because it wasn't in the planned on doesn't mean it wasn't planned around. So as the skies grew dark and the rain began to pour, The Great Room at Lake Lawn Resort served as well...a great back-up location for Colleen & Kevin's ceremony. Planned outdoor portraits morphed into hijinks around the hotel and we didn't miss a beat. That's because no matter how beautiful the location - it's the people that make weddings great. A reception hall is just a big ol' empty room without the right people there to give it life. And these were indeed the right people.

So, when planning for your wedding day, make sure to plan for the less then ideal scenario. Hire a photographer who is experienced at rolling with the flurry punches that Mother Nature can sometimes throw and who doesn't panic. Experience and attitude do matter. Plan what you can, and once your day arrives, set the planning aside and celebrate like there's no tomorrow. Just like Colleen and Kevin did.

Which brings me back to their story. After trying to thwart us all day, Mother Nature relented a bit after the ceremony just long enough for a few outdoor photos, and even paid us back with some amazingly photogenic rain for a short session at the end of the night.
